Unicode Language Kit Products for OS X (10.2-10.4)
You can find information here about the latest happenings with our existing products
and developments with new products. We make every attempt to
update this section from time to time but you're also invited to email us with specific questions too.
UPDATE: 16 MAR 2008
Special offer for Current Tibetan Language Kit Customers
For a limited time you can round out your collection of Tibetan fonts by adding our four latest fonts plus our new, upcoming text face (one of our nicest fonts yet) for only $59 USD — that's a savings of $77 over individual purchases.
If you already own the basic Tibetan Language Kit package, use the this link to take advantage of this offer.
Own the dBuMed or Woodblock face already? No problem, you can add the remaining font and get the Drepung font upon release by using this link and paying the difference.
But hurry, this offer will expire on Wednesday at 4:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time!
UPDATE: 06 JAN 2008
We’re continuing our roll-out of Tibetan fonts with a new decorative font, XenoType TB HorYig, based largely on the old Mongolian Phagspa alphabet. This is a modern style that uses a horizontal orientation and some different vowel forms -- it can be seen used on various products. You can view a PDF sample here.
We've bundled this font with our previous release, XenoType TB sPungsChen, at a reduced price of $29 for both fonts to encourage their use (in appropriate contexts, of course). They're being sold as the Tibetan Ornamental Font Pack and are currently available for OS X users only.
UPDATE: 25 NOV 2007
Another new Tibetan font is available for Mac users (Windows users - soon!). This new offering is a specialized Tibetan font (sPungs Chen), reminiscent of the Rañjana font frequently used for Sanskrit (which is also under development). It is not however the same font -- the character shapes and vowels are very different from standard Rañjana. You can view a PDF sample here.
UPDATE: 11 NOV 2007
Our dbu-med font is now available to Windows XP users. Please read the information concening the capabilities of this font before ordering -- at this time support is limited to native Tibetan stacks only. Windows XP users must have installed the latest updates for Office or Internet Explorer for the latest release of the Unicode engine that controls the display of Tibetan. (Vista users have it automatically in all releases.)
Windows Vista users are welcome to try the font out too since Tibetan is now included in Vista. We have not, however, been able to test under the new operating system. There is no reason to suspect that the font won't work as expected, but if you'd like to help us verify this, please contact us directly.
UPDATE: 16 SEP 2007
Thanks to everybody who took advantage of the special discount pricing on the Woodblock and dbu-med typefaces! The new regular price is $29 USD for each additional face and each face can now be purchased separately - you don't need to own our Tibetan Language Kit first.
Tibetan is clearly our most popular product and we're redirecting efforts towards several different Tibetan fonts that have never been finished because of time constraints - lots of new ones on the way. Here's a quick look at some of them:
Several of these fonts will be just like our dbu-med offering in the sense that they will not support Sanskrit stacks. At least not initially. Ideally, we'd love to support all 900+ Sanskrit stacks but that's just not feasible without adequate samples and feedback. All of the standard, native Tibetan conjuncts will be supported.
Many of these fonts are spcialized and not intended for everyday use.
UPDATE: 30 AUG 2007
We're proud to be the first and still the only company to produce working Unicode Tibetan solutions for OS X on the Macintosh. And we're very pleased to make this next announcement:
It's official -- the Woodlbock font is finally complete and ready for use! The price has also been further reduced to only $19 for existing customers.
The entire glyph repertoire is finally completed (though many of the specialized symbols still use the base font) and the last remaining adjustments are being made to optimize vowel placement. As you can see, this font is based on a popular woodblock style that we think we'll be very appealing for certain types of texts.
A great deal of time has been spent working with the glyph shapes to provide optimal position and size for complex stacks but you may still find the odd sequence that we haven't perhaps tweaked as much as you might like — please feel free to let us know about it. We will continue to make enhancements to the font.
UPDATE: 19 AUG 2007
It's taken quite a long time with so much focus on other products, but our latest Tibetan font is just about ready for release. Some of you have helped by using earlier versions of the font and offering suggestions — we hope the rest of you will agree that it's been worth the wait.
Existing customers can order now for only $19!
Also, some of you will be happy to know that we have revived our work on the Unicode Tibetan Drepung font as well, so watch for more information on this in the upcoming months.
