Want to read Tamil web pages correctly? Do you need to read or send email in Tamil or create Tamil language publications without worrying about font encodings? Now you can with Unicode Tamil fonts.

We’ve created a way for you to have access to many of the free Tamil fonts available from the Indian government for use on your Macintosh computer. By themselves, these fonts won’t work properly with Macintosh programs because they don’t contain the information needed to work under OS X.

But, for just $10 a font, we can add that missing information for you and open up the entire world of Tamil typography to more Macintosh users.

Compatibility

There are a great many applications available now for OS X users that can display complex languages like Tamil correctly — browsers, text editors, word processors, spreadsheet programs, HTML editors, page layout programs and much more. For a partial list of the applications that we’ve tried out please visit our Compatibility page. (Notably absent from the list are Adobe and Microsoft products.*)

System Requirements

• Mac OS X 10.4 or higher
• A fully Unicode compliant application

We’ve tested these fonts under OS X 10.4 and 10.5. Users of earlier versions should contact us first or consider upgrading.

Many of these fonts are available in regular, bold, italic and bold-italic for full font families. 120 font files in all.

These are the same fonts used in many newspapers and other publications throughout the Tamil speaking world. Now they’re available to Macintosh users too!

Use this link to download a PDF file with samples of each Unicode Tamil typeface available now, choose the fonts you'd like and submit your request* on our Tamil Font Conversion Order Page.

Most users won’t need or want every font so you can pick your favorites or buy just a single family. Publishers may want the the entire collection. The cost is only $10 USD for each font but for those who choose to have all of the fonts modified, we’ll offer a 40% discount — that’s just $6 USD per font!

*The small print...

This service is provided on a contract work basis. You will be required to verify that you already have the outlines in your possession and acknowledge that you are paying for an enhancement to existing fonts. You choose the individual fonts you want, or all of them, and we provide you with edited copies that contain the correct information so that they work in Unicode-compliant applications under OS X.

These fonts are currently the only ones we have designed tables for. If you have a favorite set of fonts not included here and would like to consider having them converted as well, please or for additional information.
